Eating disorder is a complex of symptoms that occurs due to prolonged exposure to behavioral, emotional, psychological, interpersonal, and social factors. People with eating disorders often use food and food control as an attempt to compensate for feelings and emotions. This may seem the only possible way.

In some ways, diets, overeating and cleansing can begin as a way to cope with difficult feelings and as a way to feel control over one’s own life. But ultimately, such behavior will harm the emotional and physical health of a person.

Psychological factors that influence the appearance of eating disorders:

  • low self-esteem;
  • feeling of lack or lack of control over one’s own life;
  • depression, fears, anger, loneliness;
  • interpersonal factors that affect the appearance of eating disorders:
  • conflicts in the family and personal life;
  • difficulty expressing emotions and feelings.

Social factors that influence the appearance of eating disorders:

  • cultural stereotypes ;
  • narrow definitions of beauty , which include only men and women of suitable weight and shape;
  • cultural norms value people of a “standard” appearance , not including people who are unusual or different from the norm.

Scientists are exploring the potential for biochemical or biological causes of eating disorders. There are people with eating disorders for whom some of the chemicals in the brain that control hunger, appetite, and satiety are the basis of imbalance .
